Structural Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy - What to Expect.

Whether you started getting adjusted months before you conceived or whether you’re due next week, chances are that you probably have questions about what you’ll experience when you begin your Structural Chiropractic Experience.

Q: Will it hurt?

A: Depending on the degree of Structural Shift we find, you may experience some mild tenderness, similar to when you have a “knot” in your muscles. While some discomfort is a possibility, not everyone has this experience and in fact, most people find their adjustments to be enjoyable and even relaxing.

Q: Won’t my belly get in the way? How will I be comfortable on the table?

A: Your team at Precision Chiropractic has quite a bit of experience with adapting and perfecting their technique for the safety and comfort of their pregnant patients. From specially-designed pregnancy pillows that allow you to lie face-down to gentle, low-force techniques designed to support the needs of the pregnant patient, you can be confident that you’re receiving the best we have to offer in pregnancy chiropractic care.

Q: Will it affect my baby?

A: While you are pregnant, we are treating you, not your baby. So while your baby might hear some noises or feel you changing position while laying on your stomach, your baby is not being directly affected by our care.

Q: Can you turn my baby or tell me the position of my baby?

A: No. When we adjust you during pregnancy, we are concerned with the structure of your spine and pelvis, which may help provide the optimal environment for the baby to maneuver into the correct position for delivery (a misunderstanding of this process is responsible for the myth that chiropractors “turn babies” and that getting adjusted once your baby is head down can cause them to “flip back”). If you need to determine the position of your baby, we will always refer you to your birth care provider as this is outside of our scope of practice and outside the scope of your care in our office.

Q: How often will I need to be seen?

A: This will depend on the degree of Structural Shift found during your examination. To learn more about how we determine frequency of care, and any other questions you may have, feel free to call our office to schedule a complimentary consultation.
