Getting Adjusted During Labor - What to Expect.

11.27.2017

If you’ve decided to include Structural Chiropractic care in your birth plan, you may be wondering - how exactly does this work? We’ve answered some common questions below.

  1. I only want my partner and birth care provider at the birth - do you stay for very long?
No. Your comfort and privacy during birth is the top priority after your safety. If you need to call us during labor, we will typically be there for less than an hour - just enough time to check you and adjust you.

  2. Will calling you disrupt the normal process of labor?
Not likely. We work around your contractions and whatever else you need during labor.

  3. How do I know when to call you?
We work with your birth care provider or doula so they can be informed of the indicators that you may need adjusted. The last thing you need to worry about during labor is finding our number in your cell phone and deciding whether or not you should call us.
Once your birth professional or birth advocate knows what to look for, they should be able to make the call for you, leaving little for you to worry about.

  4. Can I just have you deliver my baby?
No. A small number of states do include obstetrics within the scope of chiropractic practice, but unless you reside in one of those states (Texas is not one of them), we are not a substitute for a qualified birth professional.
Our role in your delivery is simply to ensure that your spinal and pelvic alignment are optimal for facilitating the safest, easiest delivery possible.

  5. What if I don’t need you?
Great! Chances are, if you’ve been under high quality Structural Chiropractic care for the majority of your pregnancy, you may not even need to get adjusted during labor. We aren't on-call in the traditional sense like your birth care provider or doula, so it’s no big deal if you deliver without ever needing us - in fact that likely means you had a pretty smooth delivery, and that's exactly what we hope for!

This list is by no means an exhaustive look at everything involved with the inclusion of Structural Chiropractic care into your birth plan, but hopefully it answered some questions for you and simplified some decision-making.
